While some of the hours in my certification courses were devoted to learning how to guide
clients into the hypnotic state, that was the easy part.
As explained here, hypnosis is a natural state of enhanced
concentration and awareness,
one that we all enter many times in our lives even without the help of a hypnotist.
The greater part of study time was devoted to the uses of hypnotism and the self-hypnotic state
to assist clients in setting and achieving goals for self-improvement.
To maintain my certification, I am required to earn at least 30 hours of continuing education credits each year,
a number that I actually exceed by a significant margin.
Please understand that professional hypnotists, unless we are
physicians, psychiatrists, psychologists, or other licensed health care professionals, do not provide
mental or physical health care.
We specialize in the independent use of the hypnotic arts and sciences to help clients
adopt positive thinking, to overcome undesired behaviors, to learn self-hypnosis, and to make desired
changes in their lives.
Using hypnotism and our specialized training, we work with people to help with the normal problems
of everyday living.
Except on referral from a properly licensed health care professional, we do not work with problems of
mental or physical health.
Before I came to practice hypnosis I had a long career with IBM, where I wore many hats.
After retiring from IBM Research I decided to pursue my long held interest in hypnosis with
the thought that I could apply it to help people make their own lives better.
It has worked for me, and hypnosis will work for you.
